Nancy Spahr Piano Studio

Nancy Spahr Piano Studio, 174 East Main Street, Peru, IN 46970, offers individual and group piano lessons to children and adults.  Graduates of the Music Makers at the Keyboard classes receive first acceptance into the private studio.

Students have the opportunity to participate in a variety of festivals and competitions:
  • North Central Indiana Music Teachers Association (NCIMTA) holds a Fall Festival in November every year.  Students can enter in the solo, ensemble, and/or accompanying categories.  There are cash awards in each age category:  1st-3rd grade, 4th-5th grade, 6th-8th grades, 9th-12th grades.  Occasionally students can participate in a Monster Concert with other area piano students.
  • Junior Festival is open to the earliest beginner all the way up to the most accomplished high school senior.  Entrants accumulate points from their scores to receive gold cups (trophies) in increasingly larger sizes.  Most participants enter in two or more events, e.g.:  solo, concerto, ensemble, accompaniment, hymn playing, sight-playing, American patriotic or folk song, improvisation, theory, composition, music essay).
  • The National Piano Playing Auditions, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers (NGPT), is held in Peru each May.  Students choose how many pieces to play and receive a written evaluation, certificate, and pin.
Nancy Spahr Huskey holds the degrees of Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance (Indiana University) and Master of Music in Piano Performance (Butler University).  She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music through Music Teachers National Association.  She has been actively teaching piano for more than 35 years.  She serves as Co-Chairman for District 5 of the Indiana Federated Music Clubs, Peru Center NGPT Chairman, and NCIMTA President.
